This week fans of One Direction heard news that shattered our spirits. Louis Tomlinson’s beloved mother Johannah Deakin passed away from leukemia at the age of 43. We had no idea that she was sick until we got word of her passing. A statement from Johannah’s husband Dan can be found in this People Magazine article.
I have only been a fan of the band for little over a year. I haven’t seen them in person in any capacity, just through the telly and YouTube videos. In all honesty, I never planned to be a fan at all. I fought against it for years, but somehow they got under the wire and straight into my heart.
I don’t know much about Louis’ mom Johannah (Jay was her nickname), but what I do know is that she was a proud mother, wife, grandmother and friend. She was also very generous as she and Louis gave so much of themselves to various charities.
Tonight, Louis performed a song dedicated to his mom during the X-Factor UK finale. Fans from all over the world were able to watch the live stream on YouTube and be there in spirit as Louis bravely performed the new song, Just Hold On. I don’t think there was a dry eye within the fandom while he was on stage.

It’s warmed my heart to see so many people showing such great love and support to Louis and his family. They truly need it right now. Johannah was a loving mother to Louis and his 6 siblings (Lottie, Félicitè, and two sets of twins, Phoebe and Daisy and Ernest and Doris) and grandmother to Louis’ son Freddie.
Fans have begun doing a number of projects in honor of Johannah and to support Louis.

My heartfelt condolences to the Tomlinson/Deakin family. Johannah will truly be missed.
